Public Art Wrapping Project – Rudy Black Plume
The last electrical box as part of the City of Lethbridge- City Hall pilot project is up!
This box is located on the west side of Galt Gardens facing 5 Street South close to 3 Avenue behind the pergola structure.
Local artist Rudy Black Plume (Kainai Nation/Blood Tribe) describes their design, “to highlight the interconnection of all living things. I wanted to include the prairie dogs, the buffalo, and humans for the integral parts they play within the status of their ecosystem’s health. They are what biology refers to as “keystone species” organisms that help hold the ecosystem together. The layout for these pieces takes inspiration from Blackfoot lodge designs. There are usually 3 elements that are expressed within a lodge design: 1) Earth, 2) Animals/Spirit Guides, and 3) the Sky/Universe, which all play integral roles within Blackfoot ways of knowing. Lodge designs help to express the owner’s dreams, their connection to the land or the feats they’ve accomplished throughout their lives. ‘All of our being is connected, spiritually and physically, to our homelands.’”
Be sure to look at the multimedia collage close-up – including the top of the box which might not be apparent until you are closer!
The vinyl wrap was printed and installed by Warwick Printing Co.
