Artists invited to think outside the (utility) box
The City of Lethbridge Public Art Program and the Heart of Our City committee are adding a splash of colour to the city centre by inviting local artists to share their talents in an unconventional way. Utility boxes located in Galt Gardens and at Casa will soon be wrapped in creativity as a way to increase the vibrancy of downtown Lethbridge.
Takashi Iwasaki Artist Talk
Winnipeg-based Japanese artist Takashi Iwasaki is in Lethbridge July 13 to discuss the newest public art piece installed at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens Visitor Centre. Located inside Cleo’s Café at the Bunka Centre, Hinode is a multi-piece wooden sculpture, utilizing Canadian lumber and Japanese textile patterns and woodworking techniques to talk about the complicated history of relocation of the Japanese population throughout southern Alberta
Mural Mentee Needed
The City of Lethbridge has recently contracted ceramic artist Susan Day from London, Ontario to complete a handmade tile mosaic mural on the Legacy Park picnic shelter located in Legacy Park on the north side of Lethbridge.
