Call for Submissions: SLP Skate Park

July 1, 2014

SLP Skate Park

The City of Lethbridge is inviting artists to participate in a two stage public art competition.  The selected artist will receive a commission to design, fabricate and install a public artwork in conjunction with the SLP Skate Park project which was recently completed in Lethbridge, Alberta. The intent of this project is to provide a public artwork that recognizes the donors who made the construction of this much-desired community facility possible while enhancing the urban environment adjacent to the well-used skate park.  The names of all of the project donors must be creatively incorporated into the work with the name of the major donor, SLP Industries Ltd, being presented in a more prominent manner.  (a list of donors is attached as Appendix A).  Although the work incorporates the donor’s names, this is first and foremost a public a work project.  Project proposals that include an element of community engagement will receive special consideration.  Artists are encouraged to pay close attention to the Site Conditions as described in the included information.

Total budget for the SLP Skate Park Public Art Project is $36,000.00.

The competition is open to all artists living in the Western Provinces (Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan).

This call is now closed. The selected artwork was Connected Ribbon by Paul Reimer and Nathan Siemens.
